West Australian Motoring History

Torquing of Marques is the first in a new series currently being researched and written on the motoring history of cars, characters and companies in Perth that have made the industry the business it is today.

By using the RAC of WA Road Guides and Year Books from 1910 - 1928 for the ‘personal biographical’ data on each brand of car in Perth and details on their owners, A. John has created an individual touch to recording many of the cars which have lived amongst us since the early days of motoring in the West.

More than just a survey, Torquing of Marques is the result of rigorous and extensive research of a high level, to ensure that each of the 800 firms retailing new passenger cars in the city of Perth has been identified and listed in its rightful place in the continuum of Western Australian motoring.

Whether you own an old car or personally or just love the sound of your modern V8, the name of your car marque will be found listed alphabetically, with other information about the brand’s origin

Having had a lifelong interest in cars, A. John Parker began collecting and restoring vintage cars in 1970.
Since then, he has also researched, photographed and written about them for numerous Australian and overseas hobby publications.
